Dear Parents, Carers and Visitors,
It is my privilege to welcome you to Abbeyfields First School, part of the Cheviot Learning Trust. We are a large, thriving first school set in beautifully expansive grounds in Morpeth, and I am proud of our school’s achievements and what we offer every child.
Academic Excellence
Our commitment to high standards is evident in our strong academic results. We believe that every child can succeed, and our dedicated staff work hard to ensure that all pupils make excellent progress. From the earliest stages, through Reception and beyond, children are supported to become confident learners in reading, writing, mathematics and across the full curriculum.
Outstanding Early Years
Our Early Years Unit has been judged Outstanding. In these formative years, we focus on nurturing curiosity, independence and joy in learning. We know how important the start of the school journey is, and we offer a calm, caring, inspiring environment where children feel safe, valued, and eager to learn each day.
A Broad and Rich Curriculum
At Abbeyfields, education goes well beyond the core academic subjects. We offer a wide range of curriculum opportunities — from music, languages, and arts, to computing, geography, history and physical education — ensuring a full and varied programme of learning. We also provide a rich extra‐curricular offer to help children discover new talents, hobbies and the confidence to try new things.
Outdoor Learning & Forest School
One of our unique strengths is our outdoor learning provision. Our forest school sessions, and extensive use of our woodland areas and natural surroundings, allow children to experience learning in a different, hands‐on way. Whether it’s exploring nature, shelter building, or simply enjoying free play outside, our grounds are central to the experiences we offer.
School Grounds & Setting
Our school occupies extensive and beautiful grounds, including forested areas, play spaces and outdoor facilities. This setting enables us to deliver learning outside the classroom in meaningful ways and provides a wonderful backdrop for children to grow—socially, emotionally, physically and academically.
If you are considering Abbeyfields for your child, I urge you to come and visit us. We believe that seeing the school, meeting staff and pupils, and experiencing the setting gives a much better sense of who we are than words alone. You will find children who are happy, kind, curious and ambitious.
Thank you for taking the time to explore our school. We look forward to welcoming you and your child into our community.
With best wishes,
Ben Henderson
