Allotment

The RHS five star allotment is set within the expansive Forest School grounds. Equipped with fourteen raised wooden beds, vegetables are grown throughout the year to supply the school kitchens for lunch meals. The children are responsible for the cultivation and upkeep of all the growing spaces whilst learning principles of horticulture and plant science.

All vegetables are grown from seed and propagated in our large professional standard polytunnel. The site is equipped with two greenhouses for the cultivation of tender plants and are both set up for sustainable rain water collection. Cut flower borders and wildflower meadow are sited to help encourage and nurture pollinating insects.

Our established orchard is planted with several varieties of apple, pear and plumb trees, alongside redcurrants, blackcurrants, gooseberries and blackberries.

Children attend the Forest School allotment all year round for regular timetabled sessions to further their outdoor educational experience. All sessions are linked in to the National Curriculum and cover a wide range of transferable topics and skills from Maths, English, Literacy, Science, D.T, Geography and Art.
